Hi! My name is K. and I’m a DONA trained birth doula and postpartum doula. I have worked to support families for over 10 years in the early childhood education field. I was called to birth work in 2020 when a family member expressed a need for additional support to combat fear-based coercion taking place in the Medical Industrial Complex. This is when it all became clear to me that birth work is activism and I was going to dedicate my life to the cause.
Community connection is an important tool that has become a part of the fabric of my work. I believe that sharing stories unites us as a people so I make it a priority to hold space for those moments to take place. I have enjoyed learning from community members and organizations to enhance my understanding of the birth and postpartum period. I have been able to attend a variety of trainings such as Get Rooted Doula Training led by Haize Hawke, Whole Body Preganacy Postpartum Training led by Erika Davis, Abortion Doula Training led by BADT, Spinning Babies, Birth Bruja’s Mentorship, Basics of Lactation Mangement led by Lactation Education Resources and Intro to Childbirth led by Ana Paula Markel.
Also, I am a Certified Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga Instructor through Mamata Yoga. The power of breath and movement has provided me with much comfort as I navigate the unknowns of life. When I am not working with clients, you can find me hiking near the mountains or the beach soaking up all of Mother Nature’s beauty. I look forward to connecting with you!
My husband and I liked K’s profile the most among several. We hired her in Feb 2021 for the birth of our son in April. She has the most calming presence. Even on the phone she was very relaxing. At the hospital, she went above and beyond. She even brought some of her own things from home to help set a nice environment. She was great at communicating, wonderful at the hospital, she hung around after he was born to make sure everything was ok, and checked in with us a couple times after that. Throughout the whole experience, she made sure that our needs were being met. Very friendly and conversational, relatable to my husband and myself. Despite Covid restrictions, K. did an amazing job of staying in touch with Zoom chats, phone calls and encouraging text messages. We would hire her again when our family expands.
My birth did not go as planned. Thank God K. was there. She made a really scary situation more manageable and we don’t know what we would have done before and during. Thank you so much for making what could have been the most stressful day of my life feel like a loving peaceful journey.
Being pregnant during this pandemic has come with its pros and cons. But one resource that helped me the most was the technology to connect with other mamas also going through the journey. It helped me to feel less alone and isolated at home. So grateful for the prenatal yoga group sessions K. offered, that me and some mommy friends attended together. She met our specific pregnancy needs and catered movement to the different experiences we were at in our pregnancies. Pregnancy can feel lonely at times, but it doesn’t have to! There’s a huge community out there. Thanks Doula K. for bringing community together.
