Hi! I’m K. (she/they). I became a birth doula when I finally listened to the voice inside me that believes transformations are a central part of the rhythm of this world. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was doing when I joined my first doula training, other than attempting to become my role models who all suspiciously happened to be doulas. It all clicked for me upon hearing the phrase “a doula is a non-clinical person who supports someone’s transition through a major life experience”. I remembered begging my mom to let me hold my elderly dog’s paw as she was given medicine to transition her out of her living body. I remembered the countless times I had jumped into action when a loved one experienced pain or suffering. The thought occurred to me that perhaps I had been some sort of doula for my whole life.
My natural instincts, background in dance and advocacy, and further birthwork certifications have forged my practice into one that values liberation and safety. Everyone deserves to feel empowered to make decisions about their birth, and I consider it my job as your doula to facilitate an environment where your agency is centered, and your comfort is valued.
